New Delhi, May 12 (NationPress) Amidst the wave of social media criticism targeting Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri following the ceasefire declaration between India and Pakistan, G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant praised him on Monday, referring to him as "inspirational".
Kant remarked that Misri exhibited remarkable professionalism, showcasing exceptional calmness and clarity during challenging circumstances.
During Operation Sindoor, initiated after the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, Misri, along with Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sofia Qureshi, took charge of the media briefing.
Despite his dedicated service, Misri and his family faced extensive social media trolling following his announcement that military operations' directors from both nations agreed to cease all military actions across land, air, and sea, with further discussions planned for Monday.
This understanding was reached on Saturday after four days of cross-border drone and missile strikes that nearly escalated into full-scale war.
“India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri displayed incredible professionalism, exhibiting calm, clarity, and composure. He is truly inspirational,” Kant stated in a post on the social media platform X.
“Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sofia Qureshi, who co-led the media briefing on Operation Sindoor, represent India’s courage and selfless service. They embody the essence of India—rooted in strength, equality, and unwavering bravery. Your dedication and leadership are commendable,” the G20 Sherpa added.
Misri garnered considerable support from civil service associations and some political figures, who deemed it “shameful” to target the foreign secretary and his family, particularly his daughter, whose personal information was allegedly leaked online, forcing the officer to secure his posts on X.
“We categorically denounce the reprehensible personal attacks against Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his family. Such unjustified assaults on civil servants committed to their responsibilities are entirely unacceptable. We applaud his steadfast service to the nation and reaffirm our strong commitment to upholding the dignity of public service,” the IPS association stated on X.
The IAS Association expressed that it “stands in solidarity with Vikram Misri and his family.”
“Unwarranted personal attacks on civil servants performing their duties with integrity are deeply regrettable. We reaffirm our commitment to uphold the dignity of public service,” they added on X.
Political figures such as MP Sachin Pilot and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi have also condemned the social media trolling aimed at the Foreign Secretary's family.
