Bodoland FC recovered from their opening-round defeat to NorthEast United with a dominant 3-0 victory over FC1 in a Group F fixture of the 135th Durand Cup at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Thursday, 6 August. The result restores Bodoland's momentum and keeps their knockout-stage ambitions firmly alive.

A Gesture Before Kick-Off

Before the match began, FC1 captain Ikhlaq Fayaz presented Bodoland skipper Halicharan Narzary with a sapling at the coin toss — a quiet acknowledgement of the water-conservation and climate-awareness campaign that has defined FC1's Durand Cup debut, a theme also woven into the wave patterns of their new jersey. The goodwill, however, did not survive the ninety minutes that followed.

How the Goals Came

The deadlock was broken in the 57th minute when Robinson Rendon headed home from a measured Narzary cross, converting at the third attempt after squandering two similar opportunities earlier in the half. FC1 rallied briefly — Huzafah Ahmad Dar came close to equalising in the 61st minute — but Bodoland's lead held and then widened sharply.

Substitute Rituraj Mohan, on the pitch for barely half an hour, pounced on a rebound after Narzary's free kick struck the wall in the 78th minute, nutmegging goalkeeper Aftab Ashraf for his first meaningful contribution. Four minutes later, fellow substitute Aron Thapa surged into the box and finished low with composure to make it 3-0, with both bench players scoring within four minutes of each other — a substitution double that head coach Vikash Panthi will take considerable credit for.

First Half: Bodoland Dominant, FC1 Resilient

The opening exchanges were tight, with possession traded in a congested midfield. Bodoland gradually asserted control: Norberto's cross found Robinson unmarked in the 21st minute but the header lacked conviction; Narzary's delivery again found Robinson in the 29th minute without reward; and Gwgwmsar Gayary missed the simplest chance of the half, failing to convert at the far post before the break.

FC1's best efforts came from Hayat Bashir's tight-angle attempt in the 32nd minute and a Farhan Fayaz free kick in stoppage time that cleared the bar comfortably. Fayaz senior, meanwhile, marshalled his backline despite an ankle twist that threatened to end his evening early — he waved away the physio and continued.

Group F Standings After Round Two

NorthEast United remain top of Group F unbeaten. FC1 and Bodoland are level on three points apiece from two matches, with FC1 sitting second on goal difference. Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC are yet to open their account. The group is finely balanced heading into the final round of fixtures.

Friday's action moves to Group C at Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Ranchi, where SC Delhi face Defenders FC, and to Kolkata's Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan for the Group A clash between East Bengal FC and South United FC.
