Guwahati, Jan 25 (NationPress) India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav showcased his exceptional batting skills, maintaining his impressive form from the second T20I into the third match. The Men in Blue triumphed over New Zealand with an 8-wicket victory at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Suryakumar emphasized that this style of play is the ‘brand of cricket’ the team aspires to exhibit, regardless of whether they bat first or chase a target.
He played a crucial captain’s innings, scoring an impressive 57 not out off just 26 balls, leading India to chase down a target of 154 in merely 10 overs. This victory was significantly aided by a remarkable 102-run partnership between Suryakumar and Abhishek Sharma, who also remained unbeaten with a score of 68 from 20 balls.
“We have discussed this before. This is indeed the brand of cricket we intend to play, whether we are batting first or in pursuit of a target. For instance, if we find ourselves at 20 for 3 or 40 for 4 tomorrow, we understand how to adapt our batting. If we aim for a different style of play, then this approach seems most effective moving forward. I must commend the top 2-3 batters; they made my task significantly easier,” Suryakumar stated during the post-match presentation, reflecting on the team's strategy.
When questioned if this style of dominance was something he learned in school, he chuckled and remarked, “My principal and teachers allowed me plenty of time to play this sport. They granted me numerous holidays during tests and school hours. That’s where I practiced consistently and learned the game.”
Suryakumar also praised leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who played a pivotal role with the ball. “His plans are clear-cut. He understands his strengths and his bowling style effectively. Whenever the team faces pressure, he consistently delivers. It’s great to have him in the squad, and it’s beneficial for Varun to get some rest as well,” he concluded.
