New Chandigarh, April 11 (NationPress) Abhishek Sharma unleashed an explosive innings of 74 runs in just 28 balls, propelling Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a formidable total of 219 runs for the loss of six wickets against Punjab Kings (PBKS) during the 17th match of IPL 2026 at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Sunday.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, SRH enjoyed a rapid start. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head were in fine form, putting the bowlers under pressure right from the outset.

Abhishek took command quickly, scoring 20 runs off Arshdeep Singh in the third over, which set the tone for the innings. He maintained his aggressive approach, reaching his fifty in just 18 balls, including two consecutive sixes off Vijaykumar Vyshak in the fifth over.

Travis Head joined the onslaught in the next over, striking three boundaries off Xavier Bartlett. Their exceptional partnership helped SRH to a stunning 105 runs without loss at the conclusion of the powerplay.

Punjab Kings made a breakthrough in the ninth over when Shashank Singh dismissed Head with a slower delivery, ending the 120-run opening stand. Head contributed 38 runs off 23 balls, which included five fours and a six.

Just two balls later, Abhishek was caught by Arshdeep Singh at deep cover while attempting a shot to the off side. He finished with an impressive 78 runs, hitting five fours and eight sixes.

Following the loss of two quick wickets, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen worked to stabilize the innings. They effectively rotated the strike, accumulating runs through singles and doubles.

Arshdeep Singh shattered their partnership in the 14th over when Kishan was caught by Marco Jansen at deep mid-wicket after scoring 27 runs off 13 balls.

SRH faced another hurdle in the 17th over when Aniket Verma was run out due to a miscommunication with Klaasen after hitting a four and a six. Salil Arora, who replaced Livingstone, had little impact, scoring only 9 runs off 8 balls in the 19th over. Klaasen found it difficult to accelerate, managing 39 runs off 33 balls, as SRH could only manage 43 runs in the final five overs.

Shashank Singh emerged as the standout bowler for Punjab Kings, conceding just 20 runs in three overs while claiming two crucial wickets. Arshdeep Singh also took two wickets, with Xavier Bartlett adding one to his tally.
