Rabat, Nov 20 (NationPress) Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain was honored as the African Footballer of the Year during the 2025 CAF Awards held in Rabat on Wednesday. This achievement marks a significant milestone as he becomes the first defender in 52 years to receive this prestigious title, outperforming notable players like Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen in the final voting process.
The Moroccan full-back's recognition comes after a remarkable 2025 season with PSG, where he played a crucial role in securing the Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and the UEFA Super Cup.
Hakimi is celebrated as the first Moroccan to win this accolade since Mustapha Hadji in 1998 and the first defender to achieve this honor since Bwanga Tshimen of Zaire in 1973.
