New Delhi, July 11 (NationPress) The President of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), Kalyan Chaubey, held a crucial meeting on Friday with deputy secretary general M. Satyanarayan, technical director Syed Sabir Pasha, director of national teams Subrata Paul, head coach Crispin Chettri, and assistant coach Priya PV. They aimed to devise comprehensive preparation strategies for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026.
According to the AIFF, the 2025-26 Indian Women’s League season will include eight teams competing in 14 matches each, slated to run from September 2025 to January 2026. Notably, the Indian U20 women’s team is set to participate in the IWL.
This advanced scheduling is intended to provide sufficient preparation time ahead of the AFC Women's Asian Cup, which is set for March 1 to 21, 2026.
The women’s team will undergo a rigorous training regimen consisting of 83 days of preparation camps, divided into three phases. This will incorporate 10-12 international friendlies and five to seven matches against domestic teams.
To facilitate this extensive calendar, the AIFF plans to collaborate with all IWL club owners to ensure players are available for the camps as needed, prioritizing national interests.
With this initiative, each player is expected to participate in at least 30 matches between August and February, encompassing both club and international duties. To ensure uninterrupted preparation for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, it has been proposed that the senior women’s national football championship for the Rajmata Jijabai Trophy 2025-26 be scheduled after the conclusion of the continental tournament.
India made a historic comeback to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup after 22 years, clinching a 2-1 victory against Thailand in their final Group B qualifier held in Chiang Mai. Sangita Basfore was instrumental in this success, scoring both goals and leading India past a formidable Thai team in a decisive playoff. This achievement marks India’s first qualification since 2003, aside from their host entry in 2022.
