Patna (Bihar), Sep 4 (NationPress) – Amrit Lal from Chandigarh triumphed over Lucknow’s Sanjeev Kumar and Noida’s Lakshya Nagar in a thrilling three-way playoff to secure his inaugural professional victory at the PGTI NEXGEN 2025 held at Patna Golf Club.
The 25-year-old golfer, who finished with scores of 70-70-74, posted a final round of two-over 74, tying the leaderboard at two-under 214 alongside Sanjeev Kumar (72-70-72) and Lakshya Nagar (68-72-74). During the playoff, Lakshya was eliminated after a bogey on the first extra hole. Amrit’s steady performance allowed him to clinch victory on the second playoff hole as he made par while Sanjeev faltered with a bogey.
For his achievement, Amrit Lal took home a prize of INR 2,54,300, which propelled him from 17th to fourth position in the 2025 PGTI NEXGEN Order of Merit.
Umed Kumar from Chandimandir secured fourth place with a score of one-under 215. Meanwhile, Rajesh Kumar Gautam from Lucknow, who finished tied ninth at five-over 221, continues to lead the 2025 PGTI NEXGEN Order of Merit with total earnings of INR 5,83,200.
Md Nawab from Patna was the highest-placed local professional, finishing tied 12th at six-over 222.
Amrit, who previously achieved a best finish of fourth on the NEXGEN, started the final day with a two-shot lead alongside co-leader Lakshya Nagar. He maintained a solid performance over the first 10 holes, including a birdie on the second from 30 feet, without any dropped shots.
However, Amrit faced challenges on the back nine, making four bogeys due to some errant shots but managed a birdie on the 15th hole with a successful 12-foot putt.
Ultimately, Amrit held his nerve during the playoff, while both Lakshya and Sanjeev dropped bogeys, finishing as joint runners-up.
Amrit commented, “Every aspect of my game was sharp this week. I drove, chipped, and putted exceptionally well. Being mentally robust during the playoff was crucial for closing out the match.
“My recent success of making the cut on the main tour after a long injury period motivated me. An injury to my left thumb hampered my performance for a while, but with the support of Dr. Vishal Gautam, I made a full recovery. I also owe gratitude to my fitness coach, Mr. Sagar Diwan, for his guidance.”
