Toronto, Oct 29 (NationPress) The reigning women’s National champion Anahat Singh has once again showcased her extraordinary skills at the Canadian Open, moving into the semi-finals of the USD 96,250 PSA Silver tournament after a decisive straight-game victory over world No. 7 Tinne Gilis.
The young prodigy from Delhi, who earlier this week celebrated her first win against a top 20 PSA player by defeating Melissa Alves, achieved a stunning score of 12-10, 11-9, 11-9 in just 36 minutes against Gilis, marking the most significant win of her career to date.
"I’m really excited! She’s [Tinne Gilis] a top 10 player, and this is my first time defeating someone in the top 10," Anahat expressed to the PSA website. "I’ve been pleased with my performance this week, and my coaches advised me that if I maintain the same level of play as I did yesterday, I could challenge anyone.
"I approached the match with the mindset of giving my best in squash, and it certainly paid off. Honestly, I didn't expect to be here at this moment. Just a week before the event, my performance wasn't great, but Greg Gaultier was there during the US Open, and I trained with him for four days. I knew that with hard work and concentration, I could have a shot in this tournament, and I’m thrilled with the outcome."
Anahat is set to clash with England’s top player Gina Kennedy in the semi-finals on Thursday, after Kennedy secured her spot by defeating Canadian No.1 Hollie Naughton 3-1.
In related news, Tanvi Khanna triumphed over Irish player Hannah McGugan with a score of 11-1, 11-3, 11-8 in the first round of the PSA Challenger 12 Pierre & Vacance in Andorra.
