Mumbai, March 28 (NationPress) India's leading female squash talent, Anahat Singh, demonstrated why she is the nation's premier player by overcoming the challenge posed by Helen Tang to secure the Indian Open title in a spectacular fashion at the Bombay Gymkhana on Friday night.
Her fellow countryman, Abhay Singh, fell short in the final, missing out on a double for India's inaugural copper-level PSA tournament. Backed by JSW, the 17-year-old Commonwealth Games medallist Anahat celebrated her sixth consecutive title victory.
In the women's singles final, the teenage sensation was in exceptional form against Helen Tang. The Indian No. 1 had Tang battling fiercely in the initial set, but Anahat secured a 1-0 lead. Following that, the third seed Anahat began to assert her dominance over the Hong Kong player, winning the next two sets in just 13 minutes.
Anahat, who kept her opponent from settling throughout the match, ultimately triumphed in 24 minutes with a score of 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 11-8). This victory earns Anahat 300 ranking points and marks her 11th career title.
