New Delhi, Jan 1 (NationPress) - Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has successfully left the hospital in Nigeria just days following a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.
On Monday, Joshua was involved in a devastating road incident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The vehicle, which was carrying a team of four, collided with a stationary truck, leading to the heartbreaking deaths of his close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
Fortunately, Joshua and another passenger were swiftly taken to a specialized medical facility in Lagos. Medical evaluations confirmed that both individuals are stable and do not need further emergency treatment.
On Thursday, a joint statement from Ogun and Lagos states announced that Joshua was fit enough to continue his recovery at home.
Joshua and his mother attended the funeral home in Lagos to pay tribute to his two departed friends.
"Anthony Joshua was discharged from the hospital late this afternoon. Although deeply saddened and overwhelmed by the loss of his two close friends, he was considered clinically fit to recuperate at home," stated the joint announcement from the Lagos and Ogun state governments.
Ayodele was Joshua's personal trainer, while Ghami served as his strength and conditioning coach. Just hours before the accident, Joshua and Ayodele shared videos on social media where they were seen playing table tennis together.
The governments of Lagos and Ogun states extended their condolences to the families of the two young men, stating, "We pray for the Almighty to grant their souls eternal peace while providing their families and loved ones with the strength to endure this tragic loss."
