Gulmarg (J&K), Feb 24 (NationPress) On a remarkable day filled with achievements, the Army secured their fourth gold medal during the Gulmarg segment of the Khelo India Winter Games 2026, taking the lead in the overall medal tally on Tuesday.

Another five medals were awarded on Day 2 of KIWG 2026 on Tuesday. The standout moment was when Nordic skier Kajal Kumari Rai from CRPF clinched her second gold medal of the event. So far, ten gold medals have been distributed in the Gulmarg segment. The Army added one more gold to their previous three, totaling five golds at this point. Previously, the Army had won the men’s ice hockey gold during the Ladakh segment of the Khelo India Winter Games 2026.

Haryana maintained its position in second place on the medal board with four golds, all earned by their skaters in Leh, while Maharashtra is trailing closely by just one gold medal. Kamiyaa Karthikeyan claimed Maharashtra’s first gold from the ski mountaineering (vertical) event on the scenic Kongdoori slopes of Gulmarg.

Veteran Aanchal Thakur has garnered significant attention. The Alpine skier from Himachal Pradesh achieved her first gold at KIWG 2026 in the giant slalom, finishing comfortably with a time of 48.984 seconds. Her teammate Tanuja Thakur secured the silver, while the promising skier from Karnataka, Jiah Aryan, once again finished in the medal ranks.

Kajal Kumari continues to inspire. The emotional weight of losing her father seems to be driving the Meghalaya cross-country skier as she raced to her second consecutive gold at KIWG 2026. Kajal triumphed in the 10 km Nordic event for women, relegating the highly regarded Bhavani Thekkada Nanjunda from Karnataka to bronze, with silver going to CRPF’s Hiral.

The Army’s star skier Padma Namgail showcased dominance by leading an Army sweep in the men’s 10 km Nordic race held at the Gulmarg Golf course. The Army team claimed the top nine positions, with Sunny Singh, who won the Nordic sprint gold on Monday, finishing in sixth place.
