Mumbai, April 10 (NationPress) The Indian Premier League (IPL), now spanning 19 years, has showcased numerous emerging Indian fast bowlers who have made significant impacts by competing fiercely with the speed gun. Among them, Ashok Sharma of Gujarat Titans has emerged as a remarkable pace talent, capturing the attention of IPL enthusiasts. He aspires to don the Indian jersey, aiming to challenge international batsmen with his fast bowling.

From Kamran Khan in 2008 to Umran Malik in the recent seasons and Mayank Yadav not long ago, several young bowlers have previously reached impressive speeds only to be sidelined by injuries.

The 23-year-old Ashok recently made headlines by delivering the quickest ball of the IPL 2026 season on April 4, clocking an impressive 154.2 kph against Rajasthan Royals (RR). This feat surpassed South African bowler Anrich Nortje's 150.9 kph delivery for Lucknow Super Giants, marking only the second instance of a ball exceeding 150 kph this season.

In a recent media session, Sharma refrained from discussing the fate of IPL bowlers who have faced injuries after breaching the 150 kmph mark. He emphasized that by maintaining a healthy routine—including adequate sleep and nutrition—he can avoid similar setbacks.

Sharma, who recognizes that the margins for error are much smaller in the IPL compared to domestic cricket, is committed to consistently following his training regimen. He stated, "I prioritize my routine, which includes timely sleep and meals. Whether it’s hitting the gym or swimming, I make sure to stay focused on these aspects," during his media interaction from the Gujarat Titans' headquarters in Ahmedabad.

He clarified that he is not fixated on breaking the IPL's fastest delivery record, currently held by Umran Malik at 157 kmph.

"I’m not preoccupied with any records. My primary focus is to contribute positively to my team and represent India," asserted Ashok Sharma.

With the guidance of former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra, who now serves as the head coach of Gujarat Titans, Sharma has been advised to concentrate on his skill development rather than fixate on speed records.

Having previously played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals, where he showcased his potential, Sharma recently joined Gujarat Titans for Rs 90 lakh in the latest auction. He relies not solely on raw speed; his arsenal includes an effective back-of-hand slower ball and accurate yorkers. He remarked, "My slower deliveries often yield the most wickets, alongside my yorkers," while hailing from Rampura, about 80 km from Jaipur. His father, Nathulal, works as a farmer, and Ashok is inspired by his brother Akshay, who temporarily set aside his aspirations to support Ashok in pursuing his cricket career.

Despite his rising fame, Ashok remains humble, attributing his grounded nature to his family's unwavering support.

"My family’s perception of me hasn’t changed. They see me as the same person I’ve always been. There’s no significant difference in how they treat me. As for friends and relatives, reactions vary; some celebrate my achievements, while others question those who aren't active. I do my best to support everyone who seeks my help," stated Sharma.

Currently, Ashok is focused on seizing every opportunity to advance towards his ultimate goal: representing India.

"My life has changed significantly since joining the IPL, but my sole ambition remains playing for India," concluded Sharma.
