Melbourne, Oct 6 (NationPress) Cricket Australia (CA) revealed on Monday that public ticket allocations for the men’s T20I clash between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) have been completely sold out, occurring over three weeks prior to the match scheduled for October 31.
Earlier, public allocations for 12 days during the five-match Ashes series between Australia and England were also sold out. CA noted that the remarkable demand for the Melbourne T20I highlights the immense interest in India's white-ball tour, which has already surpassed 175,000 tickets sold across eight matches.
“The large turnout expected for the Melbourne T20I is another clear sign of the significant enthusiasm for this series. We are delighted to see fans engaging with the Australia v India matchup so passionately, and we are committed to providing a world-class experience both on the field and off,” stated CA CEO Todd Greenberg.
“With over 175,000 tickets sold and just 13 days until the first ODI in Perth, this is an incredible achievement. It underscores the strength of this rivalry and the excitement of fans nationwide,” Greenberg added.
CA also mentioned that AFL member tickets for the MCG T20I match will be available starting Monday, while MCC member tickets will go on sale from Tuesday. Public ticket allocations for matches in Sydney and Manuka Oval are already sold out, and the Adelaide ODI and Gabba T20I are approaching capacity, with fewer than 5,000 tickets remaining for each.
India’s white-ball tour of Australia kicks off with the ODI series opener on October 19 at Perth Stadium, followed by games at Adelaide Oval and Sydney Cricket Ground on October 23 and 25, respectively.
The five-match T20I series starts on October 29 at Manuka Oval in Canberra, with subsequent matches set for the MCG on October 31, Bellerive Oval in Hobart on November 2, Gold Coast Stadium on November 6, and The Gabba in Brisbane on November 8.
During India's last tour of Australia for a bilateral ODI series, the visitors lost 2-1 in 2020/21 but managed to clinch the subsequent T20I series by the same margin on that tour.
India will be captained by newly appointed Shubman Gill in the ODIs, with seasoned players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli included in the squad, while Suryakumar Yadav will lead the T20I segment of the tour.
