Melbourne, April 8 (NationPress) - Cricket Australia has announced the women’s central contract list for the 2026–27 season, featuring new talents Lucy Hamilton and Chloe Ainsworth to enhance the pace-bowling lineup ahead of an intense T20 schedule.

The roster consists of 18 players, with three changes from the previous year. Nicola Carey, an allrounder from Tasmania, makes a comeback after proving her worth on the international stage.

Teenage left-arm seamer Hamilton has earned her first national contract following a swift ascent through the ranks. The 19-year-old debuted across all formats within just over three weeks in March.

After leading the Australian team at the Under-19 World Cup in 2025, she debuted in senior cricket during an ODI against India in Hobart, followed by her Test debut at the WACA Ground. She concluded her impressive month with a T20I appearance against the West Indies in St Vincent.

Western Australia's Ainsworth, aged 20, has also been recognized despite not yet playing for the senior national team. Known as a rising star since her debut with the Perth Scorchers in 2023, she has taken 40 wickets across three Women's Big Bash League seasons, maintaining an average of 22.30 and an economy rate below seven. Her consistent performances have earned her multiple selections in the tournament’s Team of the Season.

Carey's return to the contract list follows her reintegration into the Australian setup during the recent multi-format series against India. The 32-year-old had previously opted out of a contract in 2023 to concentrate on domestic cricket with Tasmania, a decision that allowed her to hone her skills and gain experience in overseas franchise leagues. Her enhanced performances ultimately facilitated her return to the national side.

On the flip side, former captain Alyssa Healy has been left off the list after wrapping up her Test career in Perth. Tess Flintoff of Victoria and Tayla Vlaeminck have also missed out.

Flintoff, who was included last season due to her potential, did not secure a spot in the national playing XI during her time on the contract list. Vlaeminck has been working to recover from a shoulder injury sustained during the 2024 T20 World Cup and has just returned to play in a domestic red-ball match.

According to Cricket Australia’s head of performance and national selector, Shawn Flegler, while Flintoff and Vlaeminck are not currently under contract, they remain strong candidates for future selection.

As per the memorandum of understanding between Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers’ Association, up to 18 players can hold national contracts. Those not initially selected still have the chance to earn upgrades throughout the season via a points-based system tied to international appearances.
