Perth, Oct 17 (NationPress) Indian all-rounder Axar Patel stated that the touring team is well-acquainted with Australian conditions and is less focused on the pitches. Instead, they are concentrating on developing the right strategies for the upcoming three-match ODI series commencing this Sunday.
Following India's practice session in Perth on Friday, Axar discussed the squad's preparations for this crucial series.
"I believe that since my first visit in 2015, there have been significant changes. Previously, discussions revolved around pitches, conditions, and bounce, and we played less frequently," he shared with the press.
"We began playing regularly after the 2015 World Cup, leading to longer series and improved performances from our batters.
Now, when we arrive, the conditions feel different, and we must be more prepared. Our focus has shifted to identifying opportunities for scoring runs, hence we are strategizing and considering timing. We are not fixated on the pitch; we are more concerned about our approach," Axar elaborated.
The all-rounder emphasized that the presence of seasoned players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is vital for the development of the new captain Shubman Gill in this format.
"For Gill, it's an ideal scenario with Rohit bhai and Virat bhai present, both of whom have captained before and can provide valuable insights, contributing positively to Gill's leadership growth," Axar stated.
He added, "What stands out about Gill's captaincy so far is his ability to remain unpressured."
Axar is conscious of his responsibilities in the series, having been selected over veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
"I am very confident about this series. In the Asia Cup, I performed well with both bat and ball. After a significant gap since the 2022 T20 World Cup, I am excited to play in Australia again. I am prepared for the challenge," he concluded.
