Nadiad (Gujarat), March 10 (NationPress) The family of Indian all-rounder Axar Patel was overwhelmed with joy as they watched the cricketer from Gujarat play a pivotal role in India’s four-wicket victory against New Zealand in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
This left-handed batsman has significantly improved his batting skills and took on a more prominent position in India’s batting order. It was the partnership between Axar and Shreyas Iyer, which produced a crucial 61-run stand for the fourth wicket, that helped India regain stability after losing three key wickets in quick succession.
Axar’s father offered his blessings to the entire team for their collective effort.
“When India wins, our home fills with joy because my son is representing the nation. The entire team came together for tonight’s victory, and I am grateful. I wish to extend my blessings to everyone for clinching the cup,” said Axar’s father, Rajesh Patel, in a statement to IANS.
While his father was expressing his blessings, Axar’s mother shed tears of happiness following India’s triumph.
“India won the Champions Trophy today, and I am so ecstatic that I can’t help but cry tears of joy. My son played excellently, and the team performed wonderfully too, bringing the trophy home,” Preeti Patel, Axar’s mother, told IANS.
This marks India’s fourth appearance in the ICC finals within two years and their second victory following their success in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Additionally, it is India’s third Champions Trophy title, having previously won in 2002 (shared with Sri Lanka) and 2013.
Axar’s brother, Sanship Patel, also shared his thoughts on this joyous occasion for their family.
“India has won the Champions Trophy after defeating New Zealand in the finals for the first time in a decade. This is a very joyful occasion; we are receiving calls from all over to congratulate us. The streets are blocked with celebratory crowds, making it truly a moment of happiness,” Sanship Patel expressed to IANS.
