New Delhi, March 12 (NationPress) The excitement surrounding India's 2025 Champions Trophy victory remains high, with middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer admitting that he is running out of expressions to describe the joy of securing an ICC 50-over title.
India claimed the 2025 Champions Trophy after overcoming New Zealand by four wickets in the final on Sunday, marking their third title and establishing them as the most successful team in the tournament's history.
“Outstanding man, I’m honestly running out of words. It's an incredible feeling. I'm thrilled to have contributed to the team in every possible way during each match, including making crucial runouts and catches in the outfield. The emotion is indescribable. I’m running out of words,” said Iyer in a video shared by the Indian cricket team on Instagram on Wednesday.
Iyer emerged as India’s leading run-scorer in the tournament, amassing 243 runs across five matches, featuring consecutive half-centuries against Pakistan and New Zealand in the group stages. He played a pivotal role in the final, scoring 48 runs and helping India tackle the spin challenge posed by Dubai's slow pitches.
“Being the highest run-scorer for the team is an unparalleled feeling. It feels surreal. However, I believe I could have completed the game (final).
“But ultimately, every player aspires to finish the game for the team. I would choose this any day, and I’m very pleased with the way everyone contributed to the victory,” he added.
Iyer also secured a place in the Champions Trophy's Team of the Tournament alongside Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, and Varun Chakaravarthy. “Winning my first ICC trophy is an amazing feeling overall. This marks my fifth title in a year, and I feel truly thankful and blessed,” he concluded.
