Vijayawada, Dec 25 (NationPress) The seasoned Shruti Mundada, Parul Choudhary, and emerging talent Tanvi Patri caused a stir by defeating higher-ranked competitors to secure their spots in the women’s singles pre-quarterfinals at the 87th Senior National Badminton Championships in Vijayawada on Thursday.
Shruti triumphed over the seventh seed Jiya Rawat with scores of 21-14, 21-9, while Parul overcame the ninth seed in a thrilling match, finishing 18-21, 21-18, 21-12. Tanvi Patri also marked her territory by eliminating the eighth seed Isharani Baruah with a scoreline of 22-20, 21-19.
Other players moving forward include top seed Unnati Hooda, second seed Anupama Upadhyaya, third seed Anmol Kharb, and world junior silver medallist Tanvi Sharma.
In the men’s singles, Aryaman Tandon achieved a remarkable upset by defeating third seed M Raghu with scores of 17-21, 21-11, 21-14 in the round of 32. Abhinav Garg and Rithvik Sanjeevi S. also caused upsets to advance to the pre-quarters.
Garg triumphed over tenth seed Abhinav Thakur at 21-19, 21-16, while Rithvik outplayed the thirteenth seed Orijit Chaliha with scores of 21-15, 21-19. In mixed doubles, Nitin Kumar and Kanika Kanwal surprised the sixth seeds Kevin Wong CC and Pranavi N with a score of 23-21, 21-15.
