Vijayawada, Dec 26 (NationPress) In an exciting turn of events at the Senior National Badminton Championships, local star Surya Charishma Tamiri and seasoned player Shruti Mundada delivered remarkable upsets by defeating the top two seeded players in straight sets, advancing to the semifinals in Vijayawada on Friday.

Surya Charishma showcased her dominance against the top seed Unnati Hooda, clinching victory with scores of 21-12, 21-15 in a mere 36 minutes. Meanwhile, Shruti triumphed over the second seed and former national champion Anupama Upadhyaya, edging her out with a 22-20, 21-12 scoreline in 39 minutes.

In the upcoming semifinals, Surya Charishma will face Rakshita Sree, who made a comeback from a game down to win against world junior championships silver medallist Tanvi Sharma with scores of 16-21, 21-14, 21-18.

On the men's singles side, top seed Kiran George faced a tough match against 11th seed Rounak Chauhan, securing his place in the semifinals with a 21-18, 21-18 victory after 41 minutes.
