In Vijayawada, on December 28, NationPress reports that Surya Charishma Tamiri harnessed the enthusiastic support of the local crowd to achieve a remarkable comeback victory over Tanvi Patri, while Ritvik Sanjeevi S. triumphed over Bharat Raghav, securing the singles championships for women and men, respectively, at the Senior National Badminton Championships held in Vijayawada on Sunday.

The 19-year-old local talent, Surya Charishma, fought back to win against Tanvi with scores of 17-21, 21-12, 21-14 in the women's singles finale, while Rithvik overcame Bharat with a score of 21-16, 22-20 in the men's singles showdown.

The eagerly awaited women's singles match between the home favorite and a young contender aiming to become the youngest senior national champion did not disappoint, showcasing moments from both players during the 58-minute match.

Tanvi gained an early advantage in the first game, putting pressure on Surya and forcing her into making uncharacteristic errors.

One pivotal moment occurred at 6-5 in the second game when Surya mishandled a service return. However, a fault call by the service judge for height provided her with a second chance, allowing her to rally and win seven consecutive points, thus taking command of the second game.

In the decisive game, Surya engaged Tanvi in extended rallies, and while Tanvi attempted to maintain her momentum, fatigue began to set in. Surya capitalized on this, closing out the match with six consecutive points starting from a tight score of 15-14.

In the men's singles final, Rithvik's excellent defensive strategy and calm demeanor helped him navigate through Bharat's challenge. After comfortably winning the first game, Rithvik found himself under pressure in the second as Bharat surged to a 9-5 lead.

However, the 2024 Odisha Masters champion responded by scoring six consecutive points to reclaim the lead. Despite facing some controversial calls that allowed Bharat to even reach a game point, Rithvik's composure shone through as he executed his game plan effectively, sealing the match in 39 minutes.

The experienced duo, Shikha Gautam and Ashwini Bhat K., claimed the women's doubles title, overcoming second seeds Priya Devi Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra with scores of 21-14, 21-18. In the men's doubles final, top seeds Hariharan Amsakarunan and R. Ruban Kumar defeated Mithileish P. Krishnan and Prejan with scores of 21-17, 21-12.

Earlier in the tournament, the second-seeded pair of Sathwik Reddy K and Radhika Sharma stunned the top seeds Ashith Surya and Amrutha P with a scoreline of 21-9, 21-15 to clinch the mixed doubles title.
