Senior National Badminton Championship: Former Title Holders Mithun Manjunath and Sourabh Varma Excel in Round Two

Bengaluru, Dec 21 (NationPress) Former title holders Mithun Manjunath and Sourabh Varma utilized their vast experience to swiftly defeat their younger challengers in straight sets, while defending champions Chirag Sen and Anmol Kharb also advanced smoothly in the second round of the 86th Senior National Badminton Championship held on Saturday.

In the men’s singles second round matches, Mithun triumphed over third seed Bharat Raghav with scores of 21-9, 21-18, while Varma overcame Abhinav Garg with a close 21-17, 21-17 victory. Defending champion Chirag Sen began his title defense in style, securing a win against Jeet Patel with a scoreline of 21-15, 21-15.

In the women’s singles, Anmol Kharb decisively defeated Deepali Gupta with a score of 21-8, 21-6, marking a strong start to her campaign, while last year’s runner-up Tanvi Sharma also advanced to the next round with a commanding 21-8, 21-6 victory over Flora Engineer.

As favorites demonstrated their skills, a few unexpected results highlighted the remarkable depth of talent in Indian badminton.

Notably, in the women’s singles, Rujula Ramu delivered an upset by defeating 10th seed Surya Charishma Tamiri in a thrilling match, ending with scores of 21-19, 19-21, 21-17, while Jiya Rawat rallied from a game down to beat ninth seed Shruti Mundada with scores of 25-27, 21-14, 21-10.

In the men’s singles, Rohan Gurbani showcased his prowess by overpowering 11th seed K. Lokesh Reddy with a score of 21-15, 21-1, and Raghu M. defeated 15th seeded Karthik Jindal with 21-19, 21-16.

In women’s doubles, experience triumphed over youth as Kanika Kanwal and Bharti Pal teamed up to upset the sixth seeds Amrutha P. and Radhika Sharma with a score of 25-23, 21-17 in this prestigious national event.
