Ahmedabad, Dec 1 (NationPress) Delhi’s Sachin Baisoya delivered an extraordinary, bogey-free 10-under-par 62 to claim a share of third place at the inaugural $500,000 Bharath Classic held at Kensville Golf Resort on Sunday. This remarkable performance, one of the finest rounds by an Indian on the Asian Tour, solidifies his reputation as a rising star on the IGPL Tour.

Baisoya has been striving for his first IGPL victory, but his consistent progress on the domestic circuit in recent years has already positioned him as a contender to break India's Asian Tour win drought. The 30-year-old, who turned professional in 2016, refined his skills at the Delhi Golf Club and has gradually compiled an impressive track record.

His breakthrough year was 2023, marked by two wins – at the PGTI Players Championship and the Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational – along with numerous top-10 finishes, which secured him third place in the season rankings. He continued his strong performance into 2024, highlighted by a victory at the Jaipur Open after a thrilling five-hole playoff against Rashid Khan, followed by a series of steady finishes that placed him fifth on the Order of Merit.

A fourth domestic win occurred at Indorama in early 2025, after which Baisoya dedicated himself to the IGPL, setting his sights on the Asian Tour and potentially the International Series India in 2026. Although he has been a contender numerous times on the IGPL, a victory has eluded him. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic. “It will come,” he states confidently. “The wins will come; the key is to play well. I want to get to the Asian Tour.”

His recent performance could be crucial, potentially elevating him into the Top 4 of the IGPL Order of Merit and paving the way for him to advance to the final stage of the Asian Tour Q-School.

At Kensville, Thailand’s Poosit Supupramai ultimately secured his first Asian Tour title, sinking a crucial birdie putt on the 18th hole to surpass Korea’s Wooyoung Cho by a stroke. However, Baisoya’s impressive charge on Sunday drew significant attention.

Commencing from the seventh hole in a shotgun start, he found his groove beginning at the tenth, reeling off six consecutive birdies, then adding another four in a row from the second to the fifth. His 62 not only stood as the low round of the week but also as one of the finest ever recorded at the venue, following earlier rounds of 67, 74, and 70.

Baisoya attributed his turnaround to a slight adjustment and timely advice. “I practiced for about an hour on Sunday as I felt my iron play had been off in the last three or four tournaments,” he explained. “I took some advice from fellow professional Sudhir Sharma, who encouraged me to just play my natural game.”

“The plan was to try something different today, and that’s exactly what happened from the start. Most of my approach shots landed between three and five feet, and my putting was solid. Overall, my iron play was the key to this round,” he added.

Reflecting on his birdie streak, he shared, “On the 10th, I made a chip shot from about 15 feet. Then on 11, I hit a shot to around three feet. On 12, I took it out of the bunker from about 14 feet. I also made some good pars and recoveries.”

He continued, “On the first hole, I recovered from the left side. My approach shots on holes two, three, and four were within three to four feet, and I replicated that on the fifth hole. My iron play was significantly more precise today compared to the earlier rounds.”

“I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming events at Glade One here in Ahmedabad, followed by tournaments in Dubai and Sri Lanka over the next few weeks.”

With his confidence soaring and form peaking at the right time, the sky indeed appears to be the limit for this ambitious IGPL professional from Delhi.
