Patna, March 24 (NationPress) Rohit Baisoya from Delhi displayed an impressive performance, recording a remarkable seven-under 65 to seize the lead in Round One of the INR 25 lakh Alpha Sports Academy Golf Championship 2026 at the Patna Golf Club on Tuesday. This marks the fourth event of the 2026 DP World PGTI NexGen season. Both Bipin Mukhiya and Manoviraj Shekhawat secured the second position with scores of 68.
Vinay Kumar Yadav, who secured a victory in the NexGen last week, achieved a spectacular hole-in-one on the first hole during his round of 72, placing him tied ninth. Md Nawab stood out among local professionals with a score of 70, earning him a tie for fourth.
The Patna Golf Club features a par-72 nine-hole course, where players complete a round by playing each hole twice.
Baisoya's front nine included four birdies and two bogeys. His back nine was outstanding, featuring an eagle and three additional birdies. Notably, Rohit made an eagle on the 13th by chipping in from the bunker and followed up with two impressive up-and-downs from the greenside bunkers, resulting in birdies on the 12th and 14th.
“I capitalized on all four Par-5s, scoring an eagle and three birdies. Hitting numerous fairways was crucial on this course. The sequence from the 12th to the 14th was exceptional; I executed three remarkable bunker shots to navigate through difficulties and secured an eagle and two birdies,” he stated.
The NexGen Tour was initiated by the PGTI last year to ensure equitable playing opportunities for all professional golfers in India and to enhance the competitive standard of Indian golf. Additionally, the NexGen aims to promote professional golf in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities across India, thereby broadening the sport's reach throughout the nation.
The 2026 NexGen season commenced with the inaugural event at the Aravalli Golf Club in Faridabad, where Abhishek Kumar made headlines with a tournament-low score, a bogey-free eight-under 64 in the final round, securing a remarkable comeback victory among 72 participants.
The subsequent event, the NexGen Phillaur Open 2026, took place from March 3–5 at the Ranjitgarh Golf Club in Phillaur. Lucknow-based Armyman Rajesh Kumar Gautam (70-67-70) triumphed over Pankaj Maandiya (68-70-69) and Aditya Raj Singh Chahal (69-69-69) in a thrilling playoff that extended to three extra holes, with all three finishing the regulation 54 holes at six-under 207. The next NexGen competition unfolded at Lucknow Golf Club from March 10–12.
This season has seen an increase in the prize purse for each NexGen event, rising from INR 20 lakh to INR 25 lakh.
