Patna, March 25 (NationPress) Kolkata's own Sunit Chowrasia delivered an impressive performance with a stunning seven-under 65 in the second round, establishing a four-shot lead at the INR 25 lakh Alpha Sports Academy Golf Championship 2026 held at the Patna Golf Club on Wednesday. This marks the fourth event of the 2026 DP World PGTI NexGen season.
Chowrasia, on the road to recovery following a prolonged injury hiatus, showcased one of the tournament's best rounds, climbing from a tie for sixth to the top position on the leaderboard. His cumulative score now stands at eight-under 136 (71-65), matching the week's lowest score of 65.
Initially starting the day six shots behind the leader, Chowrasia executed a near-perfect round that propelled him to the forefront.
In second place is Rohit Narwal, who completed the second round with a commendable 68, placing him at four-under 140. Meanwhile, local professional Md Nawab emerged as the highest-ranked golfer from Patna, shooting a 73 and tying for sixth at one-under 143.
Overnight leader Rohit Baisoya faced challenges, slipping to a tie for sixth after a second-round score of 78. Notably, the par-72 Patna Golf Club features a nine-hole course, played twice to complete a full round.
Chowrasia's round began explosively, netting six birdies within the first 12 holes. Despite a bogey on the 14th, he quickly regained momentum with birdies on the 15th and 17th, concluding an outstanding round.
After taking the lead, Sunit expressed, “I started exceptionally well, making some challenging putts and executing a solid up-and-down early in the round. My ability to read the greens accurately was crucial in draining putts at key moments. I've been hitting the ball well for some time, but my putting was particularly sharp today.”
“Having endured a long injury layoff, I am now fully recovered. Due to my back injury, I had to adjust my swing. I feel these adjustments are gradually becoming integral to my game. My uncle, SSP Chawrasia, has been an incredible support during my recovery, offering invaluable encouragement and advice,” he added.
