Key Takeaways
Faridabad, Feb 25 (NationPress) Aditya Raj Singh Chahal delivered an impressive performance with a four-under 68 in the second round, extending his lead to five shots with a total score of seven-under 137 at the DP World PGTI NexGen 2026 event held at the Aravalli Golf Club in Faridabad.
The Jaipur golfer, who started the day as a joint leader, recorded an eagle, five birdies, and three bogeys, establishing himself as the sole leader at the INR 25 lakh competition.
Following him, Jujhar Singh (69) and Santosh Kumar (73) shared the second position at two-under 142. Sunny Singh (72) and Arjun Bhati (72) were tied for fourth at one-under 143. The cut was made at six-over 150, allowing the top 43 players to continue.
In Greater Noida, Saptak Talwar, competing on his home turf at the Jaypee Greens Golf Course, showcased remarkable skill to defeat Rashid Khan, one of India's top match play competitors, during a second-round singles match of the DP World PGTI’s 72 The League.
Talwar’s team, the Mumbai Aces, bounced back from a tough first day, accumulating nine points against the Kolkata Classics to reach a total of 11 points.
The overnight leaders, Rajasthan Regals, had a challenging day, securing only one match win and halving another against the Charminar Champions, yet they maintained their position at the top of the leaderboard with 17 points, now joined by the UP Prometheans.
The Prometheans almost took the lead outright, but a spectacular second shot from Jhared Hack, who hit an eagle on the last hole, altered the course of the match.
Talwar, who feels a strong connection to this golf course where he clinched his first professional win last year at the Adani Invitational Golf Championship, demonstrated once again the significance of home advantage. On the challenging 16th hole, he managed to hit his ball onto the green for a par after being obstructed by a tree. On the 17th, both players were off the green, but Talwar sank a remarkable birdie putt from nearly 90 feet, giving him a vital lead.
“It was a long, stressful day. I grew up at the Delhi Golf Club and have always admired Rashid Khan. To have beaten him today was truly breathtaking,” Talwar expressed.
“This golf course is special for me. It’s where I won my first title and I’ve spent many formative years here.”
In a strong performance, Chikkarangappa S and Dhruv Sheoran of the Rajasthan Regals maintained their winning streak, defeating Anshul Patel and Vishesh Sharma 4&2 in a match where they were dominant throughout.
Shubham Jaglan and Dominic Piccirillo from the Charminar Champions earned three points by winning against K Prabagaran and Yuvraj Singh 2&1 in the foursomes format.
Jaglan later shared their successful strategy: “We communicated effectively. Before the match, we agreed not to apologize if we put each other in tough spots. It just happens in golf, and that approach worked well for us.”
The third round of the league is set for Wednesday at Jaypee Greens Golf Course in Noida, featuring matches between Rajasthan Regals and Mumbai Aces, Kolkata Classics versus UP Prometheans, and Nava Raipur against Charminar Champions.
