Did Interim PHF Chief Really Lift the Ban on Hockey Captain Butt Amid FIH Pro League Controversy?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) The newly appointed interim president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, has rescinded the two-year ban imposed on the national hockey team captain, Ammad Shakeel Butt.
Previously, the outgoing PHF chief, Tariq Hussain Bugti, had enforced the ban due to allegations surrounding mismanagement during the national team's participation in the second leg of the FIH Pro League in Hobart, Australia, just before his resignation.
On Thursday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accepted Bugti's resignation and appointed Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, who serves as the Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), as the ad-hoc president of the federation.
This decision comes amid controversy regarding the Pakistan national team's tour to Australia, where inadequate accommodation arrangements compelled players to endure lengthy hours on the road.
Despite these claims, Captain Butt, through a video statement, denied that the team was left without hotel accommodations or forced onto the streets. However, players expressed concerns over their daily TA/DA allowance of USD 40 from the PSB, which falls short of the USD 100 mandated by PHF regulations.
On Friday, PHF's interim president Wani announced the lifting of Butt's ban, emphasizing that his administration would prioritize transparency and fairness in all decisions, as reported by the Dawn.
Pakistan has faced defeats in all their matches in the FIH Pro League so far, leading to criticism of their overall performance. Following Bugti’s resignation, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with the hockey players, including Ammad Butt.
After the meeting, Butt informed the media that Naqvi clarified there was no ban and that the same team that toured Australia would be traveling to Egypt.
