Leverkusen, Aug 11 (NationPress) Bayer Leverkusen has officially acquired goalkeeper Janis Blaswich from Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig in a transfer deal valued at approximately three million Euros, inclusive of performance-based add-ons.
The 34-year-old athlete, originally from Willich in the Lower Rhine region, has committed to a contract with Leverkusen lasting until June 30, 2027. Blaswich steps in as a substitute for Lukas Hradecky, who has made his move to AS Monaco. He is anticipated to take on the role of backup for newly signed Mark Flekken.
"It is an immense honor for me to follow in the footsteps of such a charismatic figure as Lukas, who has become a legend at Bayer 04," Blaswich expressed. The towering goalkeeper, standing at 1.93 meters, spent the previous season on loan at Red Bull Salzburg, a top-tier Austrian team. "Joining Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the most prestigious club in my home region and one of the elite clubs in Germany, is remarkable. I am genuinely excited about the opportunities that await me," he added.
Throughout his tenure, Blaswich made 47 appearances for Red Bull, stepping in for the injured Leipzig No. 1, Peter Gulacsi. He later transitioned to Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga. Prior to his Bundesliga career, the German goalkeeper featured in 110 matches for Eredivisie club Heracles Almelo before returning to Germany for the 2022/23 season.
He has occasionally been considered for the national team by coach Julian Nagelsmann, yet has yet to secure a cap for Die Mannschaft.
"With Janis Blaswich, we have secured a top-tier successor in the goalkeeper position. This enables us to maintain the quality of our goalkeeping team," stated Bayer 04 Sporting Director Simon Rolfes. "Alongside his individual skills, Janis offers vast international experience. We are thrilled to have finalized this exceptional transfer."
