London, July 3 (NationPress) Tammy Beaumont is set to lead England for the first time in women’s T20 internationals after regular captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has been sidelined from the third T20I against India, scheduled for Thursday, due to a left groin injury.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has also announced that top-order batter Maia Bouchier will join the T20I squad as a replacement ahead of the match at The Oval. “The results of the scan will decide if Sciver-Brunt must miss any additional matches in the series, with the fourth Vitality IT20 set for Wednesday, July 9, at Emirates Old Trafford,” the ECB stated.
Nat, who is a batting all-rounder, scored 66 runs during England’s significant 97-run defeat against India in the first T20I at Trent Bridge. She was seen leaving the field while fielding in the second match at Bristol, where she managed only 13 runs as the hosts fell to a 24-run loss.
"India managed to build a substantial partnership, which we didn't adapt to as swiftly as we would have preferred. Everyone really committed to the task and attempted to push through, so the effort was evident. We can definitely bounce back with some fresh strategies and be more precise in our executions," Nat remarked after the second T20I loss at Seat Unique Stadium.
England is currently trailing 0-2 in the five-match series, and another loss at The Oval would mean they would lose a T20I series to India on home soil for the first time. The fourth T20I is set to take place in Manchester on July 9, followed by the fifth match in Birmingham on July 12.
