BGT 2024-25: Lyon Anticipates Marsh's Bowling Role in Adelaide Test

New Delhi, Dec 4 (NationPress) Veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon expressed his belief that all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will take on bowling duties for Australia in the forthcoming pink-ball Test against India, commencing at Adelaide Oval on December 6. He mentioned that he is ready to shoulder additional bowling responsibilities if required.
"I genuinely think we will see Mitch Marsh bowl. I have no worries regarding Bison's (Marsh's) fitness, to be honest. He has been outstanding for us in the matches since his return … I have complete faith in Bison, and I'm eager to bowl his overs. I clearly understand my role within the team, so nothing changes for me. If given the chance to bowl more overs, I will gladly accept it," Lyon remarked to reporters on Wednesday.
He anticipates that the Adelaide pitch, which is rich with 6mm grass, will offer assistance to spinners as the Test progresses. With Australia looking to equal the series after suffering a 295-run defeat to India in Perth, Lyon is hopeful about the home side's performance in Adelaide.
"We acknowledge that we did not perform at our best in Perth and India completely outplayed us. However, it has been somewhat amusing to observe the reactions and comments from various people following just one loss," he added.
"The beauty of a five-match Test series is that we get a chance to rectify our mistakes, and that is the challenge we currently face. We are up against a world-class India team that played exceptional cricket in Perth, but that was nine days ago now, so come Friday, we're ready to go again, and I'm looking forward to it."
"We are human, and we will make mistakes, but if we can go out there and learn from our experiences, we will better our position for our next match. We have a strong record here, playing at one of the finest venues in the world on a fantastic pitch, so I am excited about that," he elaborated.
Lyon concluded by expressing astonishment over the exclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in Perth, as India opted for Washington Sundar over the legendary spin duo. "(It) surprises me greatly. The quality of Indian cricketers in that squad is remarkable. You have Ashwin with around 530 wickets (536) and Jadeja with over 300 wickets (319). It is astonishing to see such quality players sitting on the bench."
