BGT 2024-25: Uncapped Allrounder Beau Webster Joins Australia Squad for Pink-Ball Test

Canberra, Nov 28 (NationPress) Uncapped allrounder Beau Webster, representing Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield, has been included in the Australia squad for the upcoming pink-ball Test against India amid worries about Mitchell Marsh's fitness.
Webster is set to join the squad in Adelaide next week, following a strong performance in red-ball cricket, including a two-match series against India A. The 30-year-old all-rounder boasts over 5000 first-class runs and nearly 150 first-class wickets throughout his career.
'It was gratifying to secure some runs and wickets for Australia A against a robust Indian team. Competing in 'A' cricket is just below Test level, and it definitely prepares you well,' Webster commented.
'Receiving the call from 'Bails' (selection chair George Bailey) after the NSW (Shield) game was a moment of great pride, and I'm eager to contribute. There's a short turnaround between the Adelaide and Gabba Tests, so I think I'm there to provide some cover for that middle-order position, however they decide to proceed,' he added.
During the unofficial 'Test' series against India A, Webster emerged as the second-highest run-scorer for Australia A, accumulating 145 runs at an average of 72.50. He also claimed seven wickets at an average of under 20.
His inclusion enhances Australia's pace options and provides essential backup in light of Marsh's situation.
Marsh participated in the Perth Test and bowled 17 overs, the most he has bowled in a Test since the 2019 Oval Test. Given Marsh's significant injury concerns earlier this year and his limited bowling appearances, Webster's presence will be vital.
Meanwhile, Jack Nisbett has been called up to replace Jem Ryan, who suffered a foot injury over the weekend, in the Prime Minister’s XI set to face India in Canberra this weekend.
Australia squad for the second Test: Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey (wk), Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster
