BGT: Abbott Commends Bumrah as a True Maestro of Bowling

Melbourne, December 23 (NationPress) Australia’s fast bowler Sean Abbott expressed his admiration for Jasprit Bumrah, stating that the current era is observing a true maestro in action, and noted that Bumrah's distinctive bowling style, which has remained unaltered, is a major advantage.

In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, currently tied at 1-1, Bumrah has taken an impressive total of 21 wickets at an average of 10.9, making him the top wicket-taker in this five-match series.

"He has every delivery at his disposal, showcasing precision and speed. He consistently meets all the requirements, session after session. There hasn’t been a single instance in this series where he hasn’t applied pressure on the Australian batsmen. I take my hat off to him; it’s been extraordinary. We are witnessing a true master in action," Abbott remarked.

"It might have been fortunate that he never had his unique style coached out of him. He has remained Jasprit Bumrah throughout his life and career. We all get to witness his bowling prowess... he is among the greatest we have ever seen. At this level, one aims to challenge the best at their peak. I’m grateful he hasn’t changed, as we get to experience something truly different," Abbott shared with reporters at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The uncapped Abbott, who has been recalled to Australia’s Test squad for the final two matches, expressed his excitement about being able to share the dressing room with Australia’s primary pace attack, including Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Scott Boland.

"Whenever anyone joins the team, they adopt a growth mindset, even if they’ve been playing Test cricket for many years. I feel fortunate that whenever these players return to play for New South Wales ... or when I’m touring with Australia, they are incredibly generous with their time, offering support to those around them," he stated.

"They are highly invested in the development of their teammates... they are busy athletes facing substantial pressure to perform. Naturally, if I’m not selected to play, it indicates the team is at full strength and the players are feeling quite confident at the moment."

"While my dream is to represent Australia in Test cricket, I am realistic about the fact that those currently playing are doing an exceptional job. I sincerely wish to be out there contributing... but I’m competing with some generational talents in cricket."

Abbott concluded by expressing enthusiasm regarding the potential contribution of teenage opener Sam Konstas to the Australian Test squad, should he have the opportunity to debut in the upcoming Boxing Day Test starting this Thursday.

"If he gets the chance to play, turn up the stump mics when he’s at short leg because he has some great banter. He’s a delightful young lad, and I’m eager to see how he approaches the game if given an opportunity," Abbott remarked.

"He was just teasing the guys about being scared, which I would be if Mitchell Starc was bowling at me with his fast deliveries. It wouldn’t matter if it were Rohit Sharma or myself batting; the situation would be the same. You’re in for some entertainment," he added.

"The way he engages with the game, it doesn’t faze him who he’s facing, be it experienced players like Marcus Harris and Peter Handscomb. He remains completely unfazed... that’s likely his most commendable quality."
