New Delhi, Feb 18 (NationPress) Following South Africa's choice to bench Corbin Bosch in favor of George Linde for their double Super Over match against Afghanistan, questions were raised. However, Bosch demonstrated his worth by achieving figures of 1-34 against New Zealand in a pivotal game during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

Similar to India's left-arm spin bowling all-rounder Axar Patel, Bosch provides a strong balance with both bat and ball, especially in the high-pressure death overs. On a dreary Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Bosch confirmed his reputation by recording outstanding figures of 3-12, playing a crucial role in restricting the UAE to 122/6.

On a challenging Delhi pitch previously utilized for matches between India-Namibia and Canada-UAE, South Africa's pacers effectively targeted short or short-of-good-length deliveries to trouble the Emirati batters, allowing only 41 runs and claiming four wickets. This performance solidified their position as the sole unbeaten team in Group D.

The latter stages of the match featured additional short deliveries and cutters from the Proteas, with Bosch emerging as the most economical bowler. He dismissed Aryansh Sharma and Muhammad Arfan with midwicket pulls, before extracting bounce that led to UAE's middle-order standout, Sohaib Khan, nicking behind.

Bosch's achievements in the death overs are impressive, particularly with South Africa set to face India in the Super Eights clash in Ahmedabad on Sunday. In T20 matches, Bosch has taken 39 wickets during overs 17-20, maintaining an economy rate of nine and a strike rate of 12.6.

“It’s certainly not easy. However, I perceive it as a privilege. Pressure can be an advantage, and mastering it is a vital skill that can significantly impact your career. I feel fortunate to be part of this team, and I am always ready to contribute in any way possible. I’ve been doing this for quite some time, and I’m continually seeking ways to improve my skills, which I genuinely enjoy,” he stated during the post-match press conference.

Last year, after South Africa’s 4-1 T20I series loss to India in Ahmedabad, head coach Shukri Conrad expressed satisfaction with three of their four group stage matches taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Additionally, two of their three Super Eight matches will occur at the same venue, which Bosch believes is advantageous for acclimating to the conditions. “We’ve had the advantage of evaluating the conditions and formulating game plans for the future. Moving forward, our focus will shift towards individual performances rather than solely the team perspective, determining how we want to operate as a unit,” he noted.

When asked which Indian batsman would be a significant challenge, Bosch remained diplomatic. “Their entire batting lineup is formidable. I won’t single anyone out.”

As the fourth key figure in South Africa's fast bowling lineup, Bosch has the opportunity to inflict further damage after Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and Marco Jansen. With Ngidi and Jansen rested for Wednesday’s match, Anrich Nortje and Kwena Maphaka seamlessly integrated into the team.

“It’s a privilege to be part of a team with such exceptional fast bowlers, and Anrich is still available. It’s a luxury, but we all adhere to the same high standards within the bowling unit. We motivate each other,” he added.

“This is the first time we’ve all played together as a cohesive unit, and we’re still getting accustomed to our collaborative dynamics. However, we’ve performed exceptionally thus far, and there’s no added pressure. It’s thrilling to observe some of the world’s best fast bowlers in action,” he continued.

Even though South Africa dropped four catches, Bosch concluded by stating that it’s better for such occurrences to happen now rather than during the crucial stages of the tournament.

“It’s something that can occur, and I prefer it happening now. I too dropped a catch and fell short of my best, but that’s not our standard. This will likely be addressed later on. We are a significantly better fielding unit than that, so we need to elevate our game, especially in the Super Eights, where every opportunity must be taken,” he emphasized.
