Darwin (Australia), Aug 13 (NationPress) - South Africa’s fast bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch has received a penalty for a Level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against Australia on Tuesday. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has added one demerit point to Bosch’s disciplinary record.
The incident took place during the 17th over of Australia’s innings when Bosch, after taking the wicket of Ben Dwarshuis, directed a gesture towards the player’s dugout, which could have incited an aggressive response from the batter.
Bosch was found to have violated Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct concerning “using language, actions or gestures that are disrespectful or could incite an aggressive reaction from a batter after their dismissal during an International Match.”
He accepted the penalty put forth by the ICC match officials, thus eliminating the need for a formal hearing. In terms of the match, South Africa posted a formidable score of 218/7 thanks to Dewald Brevis, who achieved an explosive unbeaten 125 off 56 balls, marking the highest individual score by a Proteas batter in T20Is.
In just his ninth T20I appearance, Brevis, aged 22, reached his century in a mere 41 balls, becoming South Africa's youngest men's T20I centurion and also recording the second-fastest men’s T20I hundred for his nation.
In response, Tim David kept Australia competitive with a swift half-century in 24 balls. However, Bosch and Kwena Maphaka each claimed three wickets, leading to Australia being bowled out for 165 and handing South Africa a 53-run victory.
The final match of the T20I series is set to take place in Cairns on Saturday, which will also be the inaugural Men's T20I match at Cazalys Stadium, expected to host a sell-out crowd of 10,000 spectators.
Following the ODI series opener on August 19, Australia and South Africa will move to Mackay for the last two matches on August 22 and 24, marking the first international match for the Australian men’s squad at the Great Barrier Reef Arena.
