Mumbai, April 27 (NationPress) The much-anticipated call that Corbin Bosch had been yearning for after his late signing with Mumbai Indians as a replacement for an injured player arrived early on Sunday. Coincidentally, it was his brother Ethan's birthday, making the announcement of his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut against the Lucknow Super Giants all the more significant.

Recently suspended for a year by the Pakistan Super League due to his withdrawal from the league in favor of the IPL, Corbin Bosch marked his debut with an impressive performance, scoring a brisk 20 runs off just 10 balls towards the end of MI’s innings. This, along with Naman Dhir's unbeaten 25, enabled the team to post a total of 215/7. He also claimed his first IPL wicket, bowling out Ravi Bishnoi with a perfectly executed yorker.

"I received the confirmation first thing in the morning from Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach of MI. I’m incredibly ecstatic about it. It’s a truly special moment for me, coinciding with my brother's birthday, making my MI debut even more memorable," said Corbin.

As a right-arm fast bowler and middle-order batter, Corbin Bosch has played 86 T20 matches, capturing 59 wickets with a personal best of 81 runs. He was a key member of the South African U-19 team that triumphed in the World Cup in 2014, and he was named player of the match in the finals for an outstanding bowling performance of 4-15. He has consistently played across all formats for his domestic side and made his senior debut for South Africa in 2024.

In the SA20 2025 season, Corbin played a pivotal role for MI Cape Town, securing 11 wickets during their championship-winning campaign.

On Sunday, the promising all-rounder expressed his delight at his performance, admitting he felt extremely nervous while batting.

"It was all about making contact with the ball. My nerves were on edge; I just wanted to connect with the ball," he shared.

He further explained that he has been focusing on improving his bowling skills, noting that he does not have a specific batting position preference.

"I’ve put in a lot of effort into my bowling, and the support from MI has been tremendous. I’m happy to bat wherever the team needs me. I feel proud, happy, and privileged to be part of such a significant day," he added.

Corbin joined the Mumbai Indians amid controversy, terminating his contract with Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League to take the spot of injured South African fast bowler Lizaad Williams.

At 30 years old, Corbin Bosch was selected in the Diamond category by Peshawar Zalmi, but he opted for the IPL to advance his international career.

He made his international debut in December 2024 during an ODI against Pakistan in Johannesburg and has since played one Test and two ODIs for South Africa. Though still early in his international journey, Corbin Bosch is gaining attention in franchise cricket. He believes that his move to the IPL will significantly enhance his visibility on the international stage. In his inaugural match, he certainly did just that, captivating fans with a stellar performance.
