Bengaluru, April 11 (NationPress) Former South African cricketer Mark Boucher lauded KL Rahul for his composed and match-winning performance against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, describing it as a genuine masterclass.
Boucher remarked that Rahul appeared to be in exceptional form, even considering this innings superior to his notable 77 against the Chennai Super Kings in the previous match.
Rahul entered the game when his team was struggling at 10-2 after just 2.1 overs of their chase, and he produced a remarkable unbeaten 93, marking his second consecutive half-century as his side pursued a target of 164.
When the team was in dire straits at 58/4, Rahul smashed six sixes and seven fours in his swift 53-ball innings, forming a crucial 111-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs (38 not out) to secure their fourth victory in four matches.
"That was a challenging chase—there was nothing straightforward about that win. At one point, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru seemed to be back in contention. It looked like the total might be slightly insufficient, especially after they took early wickets. KL Rahul entered under immense pressure with wickets tumbling around him and a demanding run rate to achieve.
"He had a masterclass performance in Chennai recently, but this innings surpassed that, particularly given the conditions. He’s in fantastic shape, and his celebration at the end highlighted how significant this innings was for him," Boucher stated on JioHotstar.
Former Indian pacer Varun Aaron provided additional insight into KL Rahul’s emotional connection with Bengaluru, emphasizing the motivation behind his performance: "This is his home ground—it holds great significance for him. He’s from Bengaluru, having been born and raised here. Although he has frequently shifted positions in the batting order, something clearly ignited his passion tonight to secure this victory.
"Perhaps it’s the fact that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru did not retain him. I know he cherished playing for them. Now, representing Delhi, he’s demonstrating to the RCB and Bengaluru fans that this is still his stadium—his arena."
