The 25-year-old Brijesh Kumar (68-70-67), who started the day tied for fourth and four strokes behind the leader, concluded with a total of 11-under 205, securing a win with a two-shot advantage.
After missing the cut in the NEXGEN season opener in Gurugram, Brijesh earned the winner’s cheque of Rs 2,54,300, which propelled him to a tie for the top spot in the PGTI NEXGEN Order of Merit alongside Rajesh Kumar Gautam.
Ajay Baisoya from Delhi (67-67-73), who led by three strokes overnight, finished second with a score of nine-under 207 after a 73 on Thursday. Rohit Narwal, a rookie from Karnal (70-67-71), claimed third place at eight-under 208 following a round of 71.
Local player Ashbeer Saini ended in sixth place at four-under 212 with a final round score of 72.
Brijesh Kumar, now in his third season as a professional, had a strong front nine on Thursday, scoring three birdies, including two remarkable recovery shots from bunkers.
His exceptional chipping led to birdies on the 11th and 14th holes, and he cleverly avoided a bogey on the 12th, which could have been disastrous.
He secured his victory with two long putts on the 16th and 17th holes, one for a crucial par-save and the other for a birdie, while Ajay Baisoya faltered with two double-bogeys in the final seven holes.
Brijesh stated, “My wedge shots have always been my strength, and today they shone as I made three good up-and-downs from the bunker. My putting was also sharp. Interestingly, my roommate this week was Ajay Baisoya, and we encouraged each other to win after our rounds. This morning, I told Ajay he must win; otherwise, I would come from behind to take the title.”
“Performing well at the PGTI Q School this year to earn an ‘A’ card and starting decently on the main tour gave me confidence heading into the NEXGEN events. This win will boost my self-belief even further.”
“I want to express my gratitude to my sponsor Golfoy for their unwavering support, and to my fellow professionals and seniors Ajay Baisoya, Mani Ram, Ranjit Singh, Ravi Kumar, Harendra Gupta, Rajiv Kumar Jatiwal, and Chandarjeet Yadav, who inspire me to continually improve.”
Ajay Baisoya, who had three birdies against a bogey until the 11th hole, struggled afterwards, recording two double-bogeys and only one birdie in the last seven holes.
