Chennai, Jan 24 (NationPress) Following a seven-wicket defeat in the initial T20I held in Kolkata, England's leading batsman Harry Brook has stressed the necessity of applying consistent pressure on India's bowling unit in the upcoming match of the five-match series. This encounter will occur at the renowned MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, with the visitors aspiring to equal the series at 1-1.

Brook openly commended India's execution in the first match, recognizing that the home team performed their strategy exceptionally well. “India is a very strong team, so we anticipated their approach, and indeed, they played a remarkable game,” Brook remarked during a pre-match media interaction.

Despite the loss, Brook remains hopeful and underscored that England's strategy under head coach Brendon McCullum, who is experiencing his inaugural series as the new white-ball coach, remains steadfast. “We must continue to apply pressure, echoing the same message Baz has consistently conveyed. We need to target their bowlers and seek wickets throughout their innings. One must always strive to go above and beyond to achieve success.”

Brook expressed admiration for captain Jos Buttler, who spearheaded England's efforts with a commendable 68 runs in the first T20I. “He has significant experience in India. He has excelled in the IPL and whenever he has played for England here,” Brook noted.

“It’s truly gratifying to observe him perform his role effectively. It was a delight to witness him from the opposite end for a brief period.”

Brook acknowledged that the initial match did not unfold as intended but reiterated his commitment to stepping up for the team. “It was not the ideal beginning. Yet, it was merely one match. My focus is on contributing to victories. My primary goal is to be a match-winner, and if I manage to secure one or two wins in this series, I will be very satisfied,” he stated.

England has made several modifications to their lineup for the second match. Fast bowler Brydon Carse has been included in the playing XI, replacing Gus Atkinson. Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith has also been added to the 12-player roster as a backup.
