New Delhi, July 18 (NationPress) Former head coach of India, Anil Kumble, has emphasized the critical role of Jasprit Bumrah in the ongoing Test series and advocated for his participation in the final two Tests against England.

Prior to the Test series in England, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir had decided that Bumrah would only participate in three of the five matches as part of a strategic workload management plan. Consequently, Bumrah played in the Tests at Headingley and Lord’s but was rested for the Edgbaston match.

However, with a gap of a week between the third and fourth Tests, Bumrah could potentially return for the Test at Old Trafford, which begins on July 23, as India seeks to level the series after a narrow 22-run defeat at Lord’s.

"I would strongly advocate for Bumrah to be included in the next match as it is vital. If he is absent and India loses, the series would essentially be over. Bumrah must play in both remaining Tests.

"While he previously indicated that he would only participate in three matches, there is a lengthy break following this. He can take rest during the home series if needed. But right now, Bumrah should be on the field for the next two matches," Kumble stated on JioHostar.

To date, Bumrah has taken 12 wickets across four innings, making him the second-highest wicket-taker in the series, just behind Mohammed Siraj.

During a practice session on Thursday, the Indian team faced a minor injury concern as left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh sustained a cut on his bowling hand while attempting to stop a ball and was seen with a bandage.

India is now focused on bouncing back in the fourth Test against England in Manchester, commencing on July 23, before the fifth and final match of the series at The Oval in London from July 31 to August 4.

Point of View

I believe that the inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah in the remaining Tests is pivotal for India. His expertise and experience can significantly influence the outcome of the series. While workload management is important, the stakes are high, and having a key player like Bumrah could be the difference between winning and losing.
