Ahmedabad, April 10 (NationPress) Following the Gujarat Titans' (GT) impressive 58-run victory over the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2025, wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler expressed that it felt unusual to face off against his former team, Rajasthan Royals. However, he emphasized that his desire to win for GT was even stronger.

At the Narendra Modi Stadium, Buttler contributed a vital 36 runs while forming a match-defining 80-run partnership with B Sai Sudharsan for the second wicket, propelling GT to a total of 217/6 before dismissing RR for 159 in 19.2 overs, placing them at the top of the points table.

"It was somewhat odd being on the opposite side against Rajasthan Royals. Yet, I must admit, I was more eager for the win today. It was a fantastic team effort. I’m truly enjoying this new challenge.

"I’ve recently been batting at No. 3 for England, so it’s familiar territory. It’s advantageous to come in after two outstanding openers who typically set a solid foundation. If there’s any swing, they manage it, allowing me to step in when the ball is no longer moving, which is quite pleasant," Buttler shared with JioHotstar.

Varun Aaron, the former Indian fast-bowler, expressed admiration for Sudharsan’s brilliant 82. "He possesses absolute role clarity and invests immense effort. I can attest that Sai is dedicated, both on and off the field. His commitment is currently on display. The way he performed today was remarkable.

"Those two sixes over cover off Sandeep Sharma were challenging—especially considering Sandeep doesn’t provide much pace. To strike him for sixes over cover when he’s bowling wide demonstrates Sai’s excellent form and keen eye for the ball," he noted on JioHotstar.

Mark Boucher, the former South African player who coached the Mumbai Indians, remarked that GT is benefitting from various players rising to the occasion in different scenarios. "They’re batting exceptionally well, and their bowling unit is operating cohesively as well. Interestingly, they hadn’t consistently threatened earlier, but they’ve performed admirably in the pool.

"What’s impressive is how different players are stepping up in different matches. They will gain plenty of confidence from Rashid Khan taking two wickets; he’s evidently at his peak. Overall, there are numerous positives for them. It was a challenging match, but they’ve maintained their strength atop the points table.

Aaron concurred with Boucher’s view on GT, stating, "Gujarat Titans are exemplifying what a complete team looks like. They’ve significantly invested in young talent. Look at Shahrukh Khan, for example—despite not scoring runs in recent seasons, the team has remained confident in him and provided him with a clearly defined role.

"Rahul Tewatia continues to be a dependable contributor, fulfilling his role year after year. In the bowling unit, Arshad’s ability to secure crucial wickets enhances their strength. Everyone is contributing, embodying the essence of a cohesive, well-rounded team rather than relying solely on one or two stars," he concluded.
