WPL 2026: Could the Tough Path to the Final Favor Delhi Capitals, Questions Marizanne Kapp?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Vadodara, Feb 5 (NationPress) Seam-bowling all-rounder Marizanne Kapp remarked that Delhi Capitals (DC) have faced a more uneven journey in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026, yet she feels that the challenging path to the final might actually benefit them.
DC is competing in their fourth WPL final, squaring off against RCB at the BCA Stadium, after narrowly defeating Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator. "This year, we probably haven't performed at our best. We've experienced more ups and downs compared to previous seasons.
“However, I think it might be advantageous that we made it to the final through a tough route. In earlier years, everything worked in our favor; we played exceptionally well in every match but faltered in the final. This time around, we truly had to earn our spot.
“If you had asked me after the first four games whether I expected to be here, I’d likely have said no. We’ve put in a lot of effort, and I still believe we have yet to play our ideal game," Marizanne Kapp stated to broadcasters prior to the title match.
The seasoned South African player commended Jemimah Rodrigues for her leadership, noting her development throughout the tournament.
“When you consider her performance in the last game, there's a significant improvement. You could see she was still adjusting after the initial matches. She has been very receptive to learning and has embraced it magnificently. I’ve personally witnessed her progress immensely in every game," added Marizanne.
She concluded by emphasizing that the team's journey to the final through the Eliminator could be crucial. "It is probably a good thing. Historically, every team that has advanced through the Eliminator has ended up winning the final.
“So, we hope that will be us today. This could be beneficial because I feel as though every wicket here has been unique, and today we are playing on the same one... so let’s hope it works to our advantage."
Delhi Capitals have finished as runners-up in the Women's Premier League (WPL) for three consecutive seasons and are eager to change their fortunes in the 2026 edition.
