“After experiencing all of this, I truly can’t wait for the day when I can come here to play and bat. This day will always be etched in my memory. I’ve always dreamed of playing at Lord’s, having only seen it on television before,” Mhatre shared in a video released on BCCI's website this Thursday.

The right-handed opener also celebrated his 18th birthday at Lord’s. “This is such a significant day for me, celebrating my birthday here and even cutting my cake at this iconic venue. There won’t be a moment more monumental in my life, and this experience feels incredibly special. I feel energized and eager to return and bat here,” he added.

Head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar remarked on the excitement among the players during their visit to Lord’s. “This is a monumental occasion. The history of Lord’s is immense, and so many remarkable achievements by our nation have taken place here. Understanding the legacy of such a venue is invaluable,” he noted.

“We too visited Lord’s as under-19s back in 1994, so I can relate to their feelings. The boards in the dressing rooms showcasing various achievements – like fivers and hundreds – serve as great inspiration,” he continued.

“The boys learn what can be achieved at places far from home and what our compatriots or future teammates may feel. It is inspiring for them to view this historic venue, which they might play on in the future,” he added.

Regarding their matches, the first Youth Test between India U19 and England U19 ended in a draw at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham. The teams are set to face off in the final match of the tour – the second red-ball game of the series – at County Ground, Chelmsford, from July 20-23.
