Mumbai, July 17 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged the administration to finalize the renovation and expansion of Shirdi Airport and ensure it is fully functional ahead of the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela.
During a review meeting focused on the ongoing developments at Shirdi Airport and the new Greenfield airport in Purandar, Pune district, the Chief Minister emphasized the urgency of the project.
In his detailed assessment of the expansion and renovation initiatives at Shirdi Airport, Chief Minister Fadnavis stated, "Plans are in place for a new air traffic control building, an integrated cargo facility, and a terminal building at Shirdi Airport. Completion of these projects is essential before the Kumbh Mela commences. We must accelerate these efforts and ensure timely completion. If necessary, we should deploy additional resources to achieve this. Furthermore, the procurement and design work for the airport infrastructure should be finalized in the upcoming weeks."
"Shirdi Airport serves as the closest airport to both Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. It is also capable of accommodating small aircraft. To enhance facilities at Shirdi Airport, we should consider acquiring more land immediately," he further added.
Regarding the Purandar Airport, the Chief Minister noted that a survey has been conducted. He instructed the Pune District Collector to initiate the land acquisition process required for this airport promptly, allowing construction to commence soon. The establishment of this airport is expected to significantly broaden Maharashtra's air service network.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar remarked, "Immediate measures should be taken to kickstart the Purandar Airport project. We must ensure provisions for large aircraft landings, and arrangements for an aircraft hangar should also be prioritized."
Swati Pandey, Vice-Chairman of the Maharashtra Airport Development Authority, provided insights during the presentation concerning both Shirdi and Purandar Airports.
Representatives from the consulting and contracting firms involved in the Shirdi Airport project also contributed information during the meeting.
