Completion of Navi Mumbai, Nagpur, and Shirdi Airport Projects is Essential: Fadnavis

Mumbai, Jan 7 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday mandated that the development of Navi Mumbai International Airport, in addition to Nagpur and Shirdi airports, must be finalized promptly within the established schedule.

During a review meeting focused on the construction progress of all airports in the state, Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol was also in attendance.

Fadnavis highlighted that aviation represents the fastest-growing sector. It is imperative for both the central and state authorities to establish the required infrastructure.

“As the nation aims to become a five trillion-dollar economy, this sector is of considerable significance. Maharashtra is pivotal as the growth engine of the country. Both the nation and the state must address intricate details in this sector. Infrastructure enhancement will be essential considering the increasing demands in this field,” he remarked. He instructed that night landing facilities should be planned for Solapur and Kolhapur, with the Shirdi night landing facility to be activated without delay.

The chief minister also pointed out that outstanding matters concerning the Nagpur and Shirdi airports need to be settled by March 31. Plans for a new terminal building at Jalgaon should be put into motion, the land acquisition process for Purandar Airport should be accelerated, and efforts to initiate the establishment of Palghar airport should commence.

Fadnavis remarked that Vadhavan Port is a significant venture for both the central and state governments, aiming to rank among the top 10 ports globally. This site will be the hub for the nation’s largest commercial transportation operations. The bullet train and coastal road will traverse this region, paving the way for the development of a fourth Mumbai. He stressed the urgency of making a decisive move regarding the new airport at Vadhavan.

He acknowledged that the construction of the Navi Mumbai International Airport is progressing effectively, and modern technology should be leveraged to expedite the process. Currently, the airport is 85% complete and will offer double the capacity of the existing Mumbai airport. He directed that measures should be taken to finalize the project with high standards and within the specified timelines.

The Chief Minister also instructed the resolution of issues related to airports with night landing capabilities. He requested the identification of factors causing delays in airport projects and solutions to ensure swift completion.

During the meeting, comprehensive presentations were delivered regarding the Navi Mumbai and Nagpur International Airports. The review encompassed various elements, including completed work, timeframes for the remaining tasks, outstanding permissions, financial considerations, and land acquisition processes.
