New Delhi, June 7 (NationPress) South Africa's all-rounder Chloe Tryon has been named the recipient of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Player of the Month award for May 2025. Chloe triumphed over fierce competition from West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews and India batter Jemimah Rodrigues to claim this prestigious accolade.
Despite South Africa not making it to the final of the ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka, Chloe had a remarkable month. In a game where South Africa fell short by 23 runs to the eventual champions, India, Chloe showcased her talent by scoring 67 runs off 43 balls, which included four boundaries and five sixes. She also contributed with the ball, recording figures of 1-46, taking the crucial wicket of Smriti Mandhana.
Chloe saved her best performance for the final tri-series match against hosts Sri Lanka. Batting first, she launched an impressive innings, making 74 runs off 51 balls, with four fours and five sixes, leading South Africa to a commanding total of 315.
She followed this up with a spectacular bowling display, achieving her first five-wicket haul with figures of 5-34 in her eight overs. This included a stunning hat-trick, propelling South Africa to a 76-run victory at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
“I am thrilled with my five-wicket achievement and the hat-trick. I felt exhausted during the match, but I’m pleased to have accomplished that. As a cricketer, you always want to add such milestones to your journey,” Chloe expressed.
“I’m relieved to finally check that off my bucket list. It’s still a bit surreal. I believe the team supported me throughout the day. I was under the weather, which didn’t help, but everything fell into place, and I’m just really happy to have performed well to aid the team’s victory,” Chloe stated in an ICC release.
The all-rounder now aims to build on her consistent performances from Sri Lanka as South Africa prepares for a white-ball tour of the West Indies, commencing later this month, followed by the 2025 ODI World Cup in India.
“I didn’t expect this award, but I view it as a significant achievement. I’ve been striving for consistency, so I’m glad it finally materialized in Sri Lanka. I hope to continue building on these performances as we approach a pivotal year ahead, with the World Cup looming at the end of the year,” she concluded.
