Chennai, Jan 24 (NationPress) Stability was the focal point of Owen Coyle's pre-match press conference, as the head coach of Chennaiyin FC aims for consistency during the current injury predicament before his team's clash with FC Goa in the Indian Super League on Saturday.

Coyle reflected on the forthcoming match, highlighting the necessity of addressing crucial aspects to clinch a positive outcome. "We go to Goa with the intent to win the match. We are aware of their ambitions, but we also recognize our own. It’s essential to display the character and mentality that we exhibited last season—and we are capable of achieving that. Once we have a fully fit squad, we can compete with the top teams. From that point, it’s about maintaining continuity, consistency in our selection, and ultimately capitalizing on our opportunities."

Discussing defensive challenges, Coyle stated, "I have never experienced a period with so many defenders unavailable, or having to substitute them during a match. This is why bringing in Pritam Kotal was vital; he has been an exceptional player throughout his career and is a natural leader."

"Continuity and consistent selection are essential for us. Therefore, it’s critical to ensure our solidity defensively, particularly now with Pritam joining, as we know we are capable of creating chances," he added.

Chennaiyin continues to bolster its roster despite the hurdles, with Coyle announcing the acquisition of Maheson Singh Tongbram following Pritam’s addition last weekend, both of whom will feature in the squad for the trip to Goa. Maheson, a gifted defensive midfielder hailing from Manipur, has excelled in India’s youth teams, playing a key role in the U-15 squad’s triumph at the 2019 SAFF U-15 Championship and contributing to the U-20 team’s victory at the 2022 SAFF U-20 Championship.

Coyle also noted that the club is actively seeking additional quality signings post-Maheson, but acknowledged that January poses challenges for recruitment.

Accompanying Coyle at the press conference was one of Chennaiyin’s new signings, Pritam Kotal, who made his debut against his former club Mohun Bagan on Tuesday and helped maintain a clean sheet.

"I’m thrilled to be here. The atmosphere in the squad at Chennaiyin is fantastic, and over the past two days, training and playing with the team has been positive. There is a commendable attitude in the locker room, but we need to improve daily and prepare for what lies ahead,” Kotal expressed.

Regarding team updates, Coyle mentioned that Vignesh is likely to miss the Goa match, while Ankit, who is nearing full fitness, will join the squad; both Elsinho and Lukas Brambilla participated in light training and may play if their recoveries progress swiftly.
