New Delhi, Nov 20 (NationPress) Indian fast bowler Meghna Singh emphasized that 2025 will stand out as a significant year for women’s cricket, attributing this success to the relentless efforts of previous legends who built the sport's foundation in the nation, paving the way for unprecedented achievements and wider acknowledgment.
This year is set to be historic for women's cricket in India, marked by winning the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup again, triumphing in a 50-over tri-series in Sri Lanka, securing victories in both white-ball series in England, and ultimately claiming the coveted title of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup on home turf.
“Indeed, it's a memorable year for women's cricket. We've all dedicated a lot of hard work in previous years. The efforts of our past players and legends have been crucial in bringing us to this point,” Meghna shared in an exclusive interview with IANS during an event hosted by OneDice on Thursday.
Since her debut in 2021, Meghna has competed in a Test, 17 ODIs, and nine T20Is, in addition to her participation in the Women’s T20 Challenge and Women’s Premier League. Originating from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, Meghna expressed that her growth as a player has been remarkable.
“When you embark on this journey, you set a goal to build a career in this field, and then you start working towards that goal. Progress involves some struggles, daily practice, and consistent effort,” she explained.
“These incremental steps contribute to future success. The fan interaction we had today indicated that we can expect significant changes in cricket going forward.”
Meghna also made an appearance at Dehradun airport to warmly welcome her best friend and Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana. “She is my closest friend and has always inspired me. I strive to support her through both good and challenging times. Even during moments when I wasn't part of the team, I felt connected to her journey. She has been a tremendous source of inspiration for me,” she stated.
In closing, she expressed her intent to perform her best for whichever team selects her during the WPL mega auction on November 27 in New Delhi. “I have no expectations; I simply wish to contribute my utmost to the team I join.”
