Bengaluru, April 24 (NationPress) Dalilah Muhammad, a two-time Olympic medalist, arrived in Bengaluru as the International Event Ambassador for the 17th edition of the World 10K Bengaluru on Sunday. Known as the 'Queen of the Quarter Mile', she shared her excitement about celebrating the World Athletics Gold Label Race, which boasts a total prize purse of USD 210,000.

"This marks my first visit to India, and I am thrilled to participate in an event that promotes running and fosters community spirit," Dalilah expressed. "Running has significantly impacted my life, and witnessing the enthusiasm for it here in Bengaluru is truly inspiring."

At 35, she recently achieved her season's best time at the Botswana Grand Prix on April 12, affirming her status as a formidable athlete. "I want to leave knowing I still have it in me. That’s crucial for me," she remarked.

Reflecting on her remarkable career, Dalilah initially intended to retire in 2024 following the Paris Olympics. However, after taking a much-needed break for physical and mental recovery, she has now extended her career to 2025. "My body genuinely required rest," she noted. "I’ve always pushed myself hard, and I aim to conclude my career feeling strong, not exhausted."

Looking ahead to a year that may mark her final competitions, she expressed optimism about the upcoming World Athletics Championships in September in Tokyo. "My training is progressing well, and I eagerly anticipate being in Tokyo later this year. It’s going to be a significant moment for me, and every step I take is part of my preparation," said the former world-record holder in the 400m hurdles.

Dalilah also shared, "I've faced numerous challenges in the past, particularly with injuries. In 2024, I recognized the need to take it slow. Now, I’m ready to ramp up my training again. I’m running as well as I ever have."

She also endorsed the idea of 'Grand Slams' in athletics, stating, "I absolutely love it. It’s about professionalizing the sport, ensuring athletes receive fair compensation, and providing more opportunities to showcase their talents. I even enjoy the concept of athletes competing in multiple events, although anyone who knows me realizes I dislike the 400-meter flat events," she said.

Dalilah emphasized the growing sense of community that events like the World 10K foster. "Running together is incredibly enjoyable. For me, the most fulfilling experiences in running come from participating for fun and uniting with others who share a passion for running and staying active," she shared.

Recalling her early experiences with a local track club, she reminisced, "I’ve been running since I was seven years old, initially training with a local track club. Those were some of my best childhood memories—walking to practice, sometimes alone, because I wanted to be there with my friends. It’s wonderful how running can bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds, creating lasting memories."
