Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 26 (NationPress) Gulveer Singh, the national record holder in both the 10,000m and 5,000m events, is set to spearhead the Indian elite lineup at the 18th edition of the World 10K Bengaluru, which will occur on April 26.
This prestigious event, recognized as a World Athletics Gold Label Race, boasts a total prize pool of USD 210,000, with USD 26,000 designated for the champions in both men's and women's categories. Indian elite runners will vie for the top honors, with a prize of Rs 3 lakh for leading finishers, and an additional Rs 1 lakh for those who set a new event record.
Gulveer approaches this race in exceptional form, having secured third place at the New York City Half Marathon just recently, clocking an impressive 59:42, which stands as the fastest time achieved by any Indian half-marathon runner.
As the record holder for both the 10,000m (27:00.22) and 5000m (12:59.77), Gulveer had a remarkable 2025 season, clinching victories in both events at the Asian Athletics Championships. He also established a record time of 1:12:06 at the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata in 2025.
Expressing his excitement, Gulveer stated, “The TCS World 10K Bengaluru is among the most competitive road races in the nation, and I am thrilled to participate this year. It's a fantastic chance to challenge myself once more on Bengaluru's roads.”
Earlier this month, the organizers revealed a strong international elite roster for this year’s race, featuring notable athletes like Harbert Kibet from Uganda, Vincent Langat from Kenya, Gemechu Dida from Ethiopia, and Samuel Habte from Eritrea.
Commenting on the caliber of the competition, Gulveer remarked, “The TCS World 10K Bengaluru draws some of the finest international athletes every year. Competing against such a formidable field inspires Indian runners to elevate their performance and motivates numerous young athletes across the country to embrace running.”
“Events like this are crucial for the sporting ecosystem, especially in a year where our focus is on the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games,” he added.
