San Juan Capistrano (USA), March 30 (IANs) India’s long-distance runner Gulveer Singh has surpassed his own men’s 10,000m national record, registering a remarkable time of 27:00.22s at The Ten 2025 athletics meet.

The 26-year-old athlete improved his previous national record by an impressive 14.66 seconds, which was 27:14.88 that he set during the Hachioji Long Distance 2024 event in Japan.

“Gulveer Singh finishes with a time of 27:00.22, enhancing his national 10,000m record. He secured 6th place at The Ten competition in the USA on Saturday,” tweeted the Athletics Federation of India.

Interestingly, Gulveer first broke the 10,000m national record at The Ten last year, concluding with a time of 27:41.81. This achievement exceeded Surendra Singh’s longstanding record of 28:02.89, which had remained unbeaten since 2008. Gulveer later refined his record at the Hachioji Long Distance event in Japan.

The Hangzhou Asian Games bronze medalist's time at The Ten, a World Athletics Continental Tour silver-level meet, was also agonizingly close to the automatic qualifying standard for the World Athletics Championships 2025, which is set at 27:00.00—just 0.22 seconds quicker than Gulveer’s performance. However, he successfully met the entry standard for the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, which is established at 29.33.26s by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

Gulveer’s new personal best now ranks him third among the top times recorded by Asian runners in the 10,000m, with only Qatar’s Ahmad Hassan Abdullah and Nicholas Kemboi ahead of him.

Earlier this year, Gulveer Singh also claimed the men's 3000m indoor national record and the Asian 5000m short track record at an athletics meet in Boston.

Last month, during his participation in the Terrier DMR Challenge indoor competition in Boston, Gulveer finished fourth while improving the Asian Indoor 5,000m record and achieving the automatic qualifying standard for the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

He recorded an outstanding time of 12:59.77 seconds, becoming the first Indian runner to do so, narrowly missing the third position at the Terrier DMR Challenge indoor competition in Boston.
