Bengaluru, April 10 (NationPress) A spectacular all-round bowling display enabled Delhi Capitals to reel in Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after a rapid start, limiting them to a modest total of 163/7 in 20 overs during Match 24 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.
RCB surged ahead with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli racing to the fastest team fifty in IPL history. However, the momentum shifted dramatically after Salt was run out, and RCB's innings stumbled as pacer Mukesh Kumar, alongside wrist-spinners Vipraj Nigam (2-18) and Kuldeep Yadav (2-17), bowled exceptionally to stem the tide.
The match evolved into a tactical battle, as each time RCB attempted to break free, DC responded effectively. The home team raced to 53/0 in the first three overs but could only manage 74/7 in the subsequent 15 overs. Tim David struck some huge shots in the final two overs, adding 36 runs to give RCB a respectable total.
It was a tale of two halves during the power-play—RCB racing to 53 in the initial three overs and DC pulling things back with an 11/2 haul in the next three.
After a relatively quiet first over (7 runs) by Mitchell Starc, Salt and Kohli unleashed a barrage of runs, reaching the fastest team fifty in IPL history within the third over. Axar Patel's second over cost 16 runs, including two fours and one six between the batters.
English opener Salt targeted Australian pacer Starc in the third over, smashing him for 30 runs, including 6, 4, 4, 5nb, and 6, followed by five leg byes in two balls as RCB reached 53/0 in three overs.
Kohli hit Axar for a six in the fourth over, but the raucous crowd was silenced when Salt was run out attempting a challenging single as Kohli hesitated. Salt, who stumbled while trying to advance, was run out for 37 off 17 balls.
Mukesh Kumar bowled a wicket-maiden, claiming the wicket of Devdutt Padikkal (1), and Kohli followed in the next over as he tried to break free. After hitting Vipraj Nigam for a six, Kohli attempted another big shot but found Starc, leaving RCB in a difficult position at 74/3.
Although skipper Rajat Patidar kept the score ticking from one end, Liam Livingstone (3) and Jitesh Sharma (3) fell in quick succession, and RCB was soon down to 102/5 in the 13th over.
Patidar and Krunal Pandya attempted to stabilize the innings, but the skipper skied one to keeper Rahul while attempting a shot over square, departing for 25 off 23 balls. Pandya contributed a run-a-ball 18.
Singapore-born Australian power-hitter Tim David smashed 36 runs in the last two overs bowled by Axar Patel (17) and Mukesh Kumar (19 runs), hitting four sixes and two fours to help RCB surpass the 150-run mark. David finished unbeaten on 37 off 20 balls, providing a final surge to the innings.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru 163/7 in 20 overs (Phil Salt 37, Tim David 37 not out; Vipraj Nigam 2-18, Kuldeep Yadav 2-17) against Delhi Capitals.
